Foot and Ankle Injuries

foot & ankle pain reduced with physical therapy

Your feet and ankles are complex structures, made up of an interconnected network of bones, tendons, and ligaments, that are also weight-bearing. They work extremely hard to support your weight and allow you to move around, which they do a good job at, most of the time. When anything goes wrong within these structures it can be quite debilitating and painful.

Conditions that affect the feet and ankles are injuries to the structure, or degeneration of tissue from overuse. Injuries can be acute or develop gradually over time through daily wear and tear. It can be anything from a simple ankle sprain to more serious diseases like arthritis and bursitis. There can also be congenital issues like flat feet that can cause pain and discomfort.

Many injuries of the foot and ankle can be treated without surgery. Physical therapy can help you recover and relieve pain if you are suffering from a foot or ankle condition. Using different modalities like ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and laser therapy, a physical therapist can get you healed up quickly. This in conjunction with various stretches and exercises and any needed gait training, can help you regain strength and mobility as well as prevent re-injury from occurring.
