Hip Pain

Hip Pain and Physical Therapy

Hip conditions can be quite painful and debilitating. It can severely limit your mobility, cause you to limp, and affect your ability to do daily activities. Hip pain can be the result of a sudden injury or stem from a more chronic condition.

Some common causes of hip pain include:

Tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendons just outside your hip joints. This usually causes a dull ache when you move your hip.

Arthritis, particularly osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, can cause hip pain. Osteoarthritis is a form of degeneration where the cartilage in the hip joint begins to wear down, causing bone-on-bone friction. Rheumatoid arthritis is different in that it is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder.

Sciatica is a condition that not only causes pain in your lower back but pain that can radiate to your hip and down your leg. This occurs when the sciatic nerve in your lower back becomes pinched, irritated, or inflamed.

Whatever the cause of your hip pain, a rehabilitation program with a physical therapist can usually help. Especially after surgery or injury, a rehabilitation program can help you regain strength, improve flexibility, and increase range-of-motion. Your therapist will use a combination of exercise, stretching, and other passive modalities such as laser therapy, and heat and ice treatment. After your initial assessment, they will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your needs.

Our skilled therapists at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational therapy are highly familiar with treating and diagnosing various hip conditions. If you are looking to get started on a physical therapy program, we can help. Give us a call and schedule your consultation today!
