Reddy Care Provides Occupational Therapy in your home

Occupational Therapy

The goal of occupational therapy is to get the patient doing the things they need to do to take care of themselves. Occupational therapists specialize in helping patients regain skills, so they can complete everyday tasks. For example, a geriatric client may need help accomplishing and re-learning basic skills like walking and grooming. An occupational therapist can be there and lend their support to help the patient live more independently.

An occupational therapy plan of care typically will start with an evaluation to discuss the patient’s goals and determine the best course of treatment. They will ask you questions and determine any difficulties you may be having with your activities of daily living (ASL) and what you would like to be able to do. This will help the therapist create a personalized plan for you.  Treatment sessions usually consist of education and training related to improving cognitive skill, and physical strength and coordination. Your therapist will have you practice different skills until it becomes easier for you. They can also recommend any assistive devices you may need or provide guidance on how to make a task easier for you.

Occupational therapy can be used for all ages and for a wide range of circumstances.  Whether it is helping a child with special needs participate in school and other activities or helping someone regain physical skills following an injury or surgery.  There are many ways you can benefit from seeing an occupational therapist.
