Carpal Tunnel

Physical Therapy can reduce your Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome can begin as a mild tingling sensation in your hand but over time develop to a condition that can make it hard to complete daily tasks like holding a cup of coffee, opening doors, and typing. It is categorized as a type of neuropathy and affects the sensation and function in your hands and arms.

Carpal tunnel is a narrow tunnel in the wrist where your major arteries and nerves pass from your forearm to your hand. The meridian nerve is the main nerve that passes through. When pressure is placed on the nerves in this area it can cause tingling, pain, and numbness.

Carpal tunnel can occur for a variety of reasons; Poor posture, doing repetitive activities like writing and typing for long periods, having neck or shoulder problems, can all contribute to carpal tunnel.  The meridian nerve exits from the neck and passes through the shoulder all the way down to your fingers, so carpal tunnel is affected by the nerves higher up.

Physical therapy is often one of the first steps in treating carpal tunnel. It’s non-invasive and effective at treating symptoms and preventing their reoccurrence.   Treatments are focused on improving mobility and reducing pain and inflammation, through different strengthening exercises, ultra-sound technology, and hands-on modalities.

Our team at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational Therapy can create a program that can reduce your pain and get you back to doing those things you love. Don’t suffer in pain, give us a call today, and schedule a consultation!
