Eliminate Plantar Fasciitis Discomfort.

plantar fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain. It’s a condition that occurs when the strong band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot becomes irritated or inflamed. The plantar fascia is the ligament under the skin on the bottom of the foot.  It connects the heel to the front of your foot and helps support your arch.

The planer fascia helps absorb the shock and strain we put on our feet.  Sometimes too much pressure or strain can tear the tissue, this causes inflammation which results in heel pain and stiffness of plantar fasciitis. Changes in the shape of your foot, alteration in your walking posture, changes in footwear, can also affect plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis often occurs in runners and people who spend a lot of time on their feet.

With plantar fasciitis you can experience burning or a sharp pain while standing. The pain often occurs first thing in the morning. You may also experience more pain after extended periods of walking. The pain is most often experienced in the heel but can extend along the bottom of the foot.

Physical therapy can help reduce your plantar fasciitis pain and reduce recurrence. Your physical therapist will examine your movement, posture, and mobility and create a personalized treatment plan to help you. Your treatment can include such modalities as ultrasound, and ice application, to help promote healing and reduce swelling. The goal of physical therapy is to improve overall strength and help you achieve long-term results.
