Find the Source of Your Knee Pain!

Physical Therapy can help to reduce your knee pain.

Knee pain is a common problem that could stem from a multitude of different causes, whether it be from an injury or an underlying medical condition. We use our knees for a lot of daily activities, when they hurt or are injured, it can make life that much more challenging.

Your knees are the largest joint in the body, made up of three bones with several tendons and ligaments holding them together. Because of their complex nature, they are more susceptible to injury. Fractures, ligament tears, meniscus injuries, and dislocation are examples of different knee injuries.

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of knee pain. This is a type of arthritis that develops when the cartilage between your knee joints begins to wear away, causing bone-on-bone contact, pain, and inflammation.

Knee pain can also develop from a condition called bursitis, which is inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion your knees. Having poor posture, and running, can increase your risk of bursitis.

Physical therapy sessions can be used to strengthen the muscles around the knee and make it more stable.  Your physical therapist will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to understand your symptoms and any underlying conditions and then work with you on your functional goals. Using different modalities like strengthening exercises and stretching, ultrasound therapy, and aerobic conditioning. Working with a physical therapist can help you avoid injuries or further worsening of an injury.
