Frozen Shoulder

Frozen Shoulder can be treated with physical therapy

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen Shoulder is a condition that affects up to 5% of the population. This is a condition where your joints become inflamed. There are three stages for this condition.

This first stage, called freezing, is when you begin to notice an increase of pain. This is the most painful stage lasting anywhere from six to nine months.

Frozen, the second stage is when you will start to notice that your range of motion is limited and you are very stiff. These symptoms can last four to six months.

The final stage is Thawing where you start to see great improvements with movement and pain decreases, however, slight pain may still reoccur.  Thawing can last anywhere from 6 months to two years.

With discomfort lasting for an extended period of time, it is important to take all the necessary steps in order for you to live your most comfortable life.  Physical therapists take the necessary steps to restore your movement, comfort, and pain.  They do this in the simplest way possible, through exercises and manual therapy.  They will access your current stage as well as other conditions that you may have. For example, they will look to see if you have diabetes, an autoimmune disease, or any other condition that is associated with frozen shoulder.  Once they have completed the original consultation, they will come up with a plan tailored to your condition and get you back to your ideal state.
