Pediatric Physical Therapy

pediatric physical therapist

You probably wouldn’t think that physical therapy is something that would be applicable to a child, but kids need physical therapy just like the rest of us. For a child experiencing developmental delays or injuries, pediatric physical therapy can be a tremendous help.

Typically, pediatric physical therapists treat kids from 18 and under, newborns to teenagers. A child may need to see a physical therapist for a variety of reasons, like bone or muscle issues, sports-related injuries, or different spine or nerve disorders. Pediatric PT can help improve their range of motion, strength, and flexibility, helping them move their bodies and make everyday activities easier.

What will a pediatric physical therapy session look like?

Physical therapists working with children will do their best to keep the sessions fun and engaging. In fact, it can often look like play. During the initial visit, the physical therapist will check the child’s abilities, strengths, and see how well they are able to complete everyday tasks. From there they will develop a treatment plan best suited for your child. They will work on improving your child’s gross motor skills, working with them on different fun exercises, and even recommend activities you can do with your child at home.

If you have concerns over your child’s development or feel they may benefit from physical therapy, you should first consult with your child’s primary care doctor. Once you are ready to begin, our team here at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational therapy can help get you started. Our expert therapists have lots of experience with children and adults of all ages and are trained in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions.  Give us a call today and schedule a consultation!
