Physical & Occupational Therapy for Arthritis

Arthritis Physical Therapy

Arthritis is one of the most common chronic illnesses in the United States and is a leading cause of disability. Arthritis is basically pain and inflammation of the joints. There are more than a 100 types of arthritis, some types of arthritis include:

Arthritis can affect one joint or several joints. The most common symptoms of arthritis are pain, stiffness, inflammation, and swelling. In some cases, arthritis can affect other body systems and organs, leading to fatigue, weight loss, and fevers.

Physical therapy is a great noninvasive treatment for managing arthritis pain. A physical therapist will work with you on a personalized treatment plan to address your specific symptoms.  Treatment will usually start with exercises and stretches to help improve joint usage, strength and mobility. They will also work with you on your posture and proper body mechanics. Your therapist can even assist you learning to use your walking aids, if needed.  The goal of any physical therapy program is to restore lost abilities, prevent further loss of use, and to help you participate in everyday activities.  For the best results, physical therapy should be started early.

Here at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational Therapy, we offer not only treatment with a physical therapist, but occupational therapy as well. Occupational therapy can be an important part of recovery for patients, helping them maximize their ability to participate in everyday activities. Some patients may need the extra care from an occupational therapist to adjust and find new safe ways to accomplish their daily tasks. To find out more about physical and occupational therapy and how it can help you, give us a call today to get started with a consultation!
