Physical Therapy Can Help Your Knee Injury!

Knee Pain and Physical Therapy

Knees are the largest joints in your body and are responsible for many key functions, they affect and aid our ability to walk, stand, sit, and accomplish most of our daily tasks. Life can become difficult if the knees aren’t functioning properly.

Knee pain is a common symptom or ailment. One of the most common causes is Osteoarthritis, which is a form of arthritis that develops when the cartilage in your knee joints wears down, this causes pain and inflammation. Knee pain can also come from injury or overuse, such a ligament or tendon tear, or Bursitis where inflammation occurs due to repeated pressure on the knee. The kneecap can also become dislocated or fracture from strain or injury.

Some tips to avoid injuring or putting unnecessary strain on your knees are:

It's important to take proper cautions to keep your knees healthy and strong as they are such a vital component of the body. Knee injuries can be tough to recover from and the road to recovery, especially where surgery is needed, can be long.

For someone experiencing knee pain or a knee injury, physical therapy is often a great treatment option.  A physical therapist will work with the patient, developing a tailored program to help them restore their knees to optimum health. The program may include stretching and strengthening, ultrasound therapy, and the therapist may also work with a patient on balance and coordination.
