Recovering from Sport Injuries

Sports Injuries

Sports injuries are the injuries that occur while engaging in sports exercise, no matter what sport that may be. They often occur as the result of overtraining, lack of proper conditioning, or not using proper technique. Not warming up enough can also lead to an injury. Below are a few common types of sport injuries.

Patellofemoral syndrome is a type of knee injury that is caused by repetitive movement of the kneecap against the leg bone.  This damages the kneecap tissue and can take up to six weeks to recover from.

Shoulder injuries can also occur from playing sports, especially those that require overhead movement, like basketball. The shoulder plays a crucial part in many sporting activities. Some common injuries that a shoulder can sustain are torn muscles, strained tendons, sprained ligaments, and fractured bones.

Tennis elbow is another sports injury that occurs from reputative use of the joint which causes tiny tears to develop in the elbow ligament. Pain from tennis elbow typically effects both the outside and inside of the joint.

Your hamstrings consist of the three muscles behind your kneecap. A hamstring tear can occur when the muscles become over stretched by placing excessive strain on this part of your leg. Hamstring injuries can take long time to heal and can be very painful.

Another common and painful sports related injury is a torn ACL. Your ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, is the ligament which attaches your leg bone to the knee. Hard impact to your knee from exercise or sports can cause your ACL to tear. This can be difficult to heal.

Whatever your sports injury is, physical therapy can help you recover. A physical therapist will help you devise a treatment plan around any injury sustained. Some treatments a physical therapist can use to aid healing are electrical stimulation, heat therapy, and laser therapy. They will work with you on a special exercise program that will help you rebuild strength and mobility.

If you have suffered a sports related injury, our team of therapists here at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational Therapy have considerable experience in using physical therapy interventions to speed healing. If you or a loved one have sustained a sports injury, give us a call and find out how we can help you.
