What are Causes of Back Pain?

Low Back Pain can be improved with Physical Therapy

Lower back pain is a common issue that affects most of us at some point in our lives. Lower back pain refers to pain in the region of your back below the ribs and above your buttocks. Because this area supports much of your body weight, it is prone to pain.

In minor cases, most people experiencing back pain will recover on their own with some rest, within a few weeks. For some, the pain can linger, turning into a chronic long-term condition affecting their daily life. Pain can range from merely annoying to severe and debilitating.

So, what are some of the more serious causes of back pain?

It is also possible for lower back pain to occur with no definitive cause. The treatment, in that case, is mainly focused on treating the symptoms, rather than the cause.

Physical therapy is an important part of treatment for lower back pain. Physical therapists will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan based on the underlying cause, and symptoms of your back pain. Some common treatments used in therapy are:

  • Aerobic conditioning to improve endurance
  • Strengthening exercises and stretches
  • Heat and cold therapy to relieve pain and inflammation
  • Ultrasound therapy
  • And electrical stimulation

Core muscle training can also be an important part of treatment.  Helping strengthen these key muscles of support can help reduce the stress placed on the lower back.

The therapist at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational therapy can help restore function, improve range of motion, and reduce your pain. Don’t suffer in pain, give us a call today to schedule a consultation!
