Fibromyalgia

fibromyalgia Physical Therapy

It’s unclear what causes fibromyalgia, although the pain is believed to be caused by an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which is the part of your body that activates your flight or fight response. In patients with fibromyalgia the brain and nerves may overreact to normal pain signals. Many patients experience their first fibromyalgia symptoms after an emotionally or physically traumatic event.

There currently is no cure for fibromyalgia, and treatment is aimed at reducing pain and symptoms. Your doctor may prescribe various medications to regulate your nervous system. Lifestyle changes such as adding in exercise, can also be beneficial. Physical and Occupational therapy can improve your strength and reduce stress on the body, helping to alleviate symptoms.

Here at Reddy Care Physical and Occupational Therapy, we offer programs to help reduce your fibromyalgia symptoms and improve your quality of life. Our therapist will start with a one-on-one evaluation where they will design a treatment plan tailored to you. Depending on your specific needs there’s a wide array of treatments that may be used including:
