Hand and Wrist Conditions

Wrist and Hand pain

Pain and discomfort in the hand and arm can stem from a variety of conditions. Below are a few common ones.

Carpal tunnel is a very common condition, in which the sensation and function of your hand are affected. The carpal tunnel is a narrow tunnel in your wrist where major arteries such as the meridian nerve pass through. When ligaments around the carpal tunnel become tight, pressure is placed on the meridian nerve causing tingling, pain, and loss of sensation.

Osteoarthritis is a common form of arthritis. It occurs when the smooth cartilage that cushions the bones breaks down. This can cause joints to become inflamed and stiff. Osteoarthritis can affect any joint but is common in the hands, knees, hips, lower back, and neck.

A pinched nerve such as in Cubital Tunnel, which is a pinched nerve in the elbow or funny bone, can cause problems or pain in the hand and arm.  Pinched nerves can cause pain, tingling, and even numbness in the area where the nerve is pinched.

There are many more reasons one could be experiencing pain and difficulty with their hands. Physical and occupational therapy can help you reduce your pain, help you become more functional, and help come up with ways to complete your daily tasks with greater ease. It can be a great non-invasive treatment for hand and arm conditions. Using targeted exercises and stretches they can increase the range-of-motion in the area.  Other modalities, like ultrasound technology, and hot and cold therapy can also be used to reduce pain and swelling.

Our team at Reddy Care has highly trained physical and occupational therapists trained on handling different hand and wrist conditions. To find out how you may benefit from physical or occupational therapy, give us a call and get started with a consultation today!
