Sports Injuries

Being active is important for our health but on occasion you may sustain an injury. Sports injuries occur as a result of participation in recreational or professional athletic pursuits. These injuries range from muscle sprains, strains, tears of ligaments, shin splints, swollen muscles and fractures or dislocations. Injuries can occur suddenly, without warning or gradually over time due to overuse. Each sport has different risks of injury on its players.

Sports-related injuries can be caused from accidents, poor training, lack of conditioning, insufficient stretches and improper use of equipment. Coping with sports injuries often calls for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. After an injury, PT helps regain strength and movement. Physical therapy is important for managing pain and can prevent further permanent damage. Occupational therapists are responsible for improving and evaluating the extent of a patient's injury. OTs work alongside athletes such as football players, tennis players, professional golfers and other sports professionals.

At Reddy Care Physical and Occupational Therapy, your therapist will evaluate your injury in order to help relieve pain. Our therapists treat a range of conditions such as; ankle sprains, low back pain, wrist fractures, stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, knee meniscus tears, hamstring strains, tennis elbow, shin splints and ACL tears.

Treatment may begin with the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Evaluation) method. Your Physical therapist or Occupational therapist will provide treatment which will improve healing, strengthen tissue and work on preventing further injury. Your therapist will guide you through exercises to help reduce pain and inflammation as well as improve range of motion.

Once your PT or OT has a better understanding, they will create a program tailored to your specific injury. Different treatment modalities, may include:
